Emergency Care
Orthodontic emergencies rarely occur, however if you are experiencing sharp pain or severe discomfort from a poking wire or a broken appliance, please call our office and we will be happy to assist you. Some problems can be solved at home or temporarily relieved with wax. Use a pencil eraser with light pressure to reposition a poking wire. As a last resort, smaller wires can be carefully trimmed with fingernail clippers that have been cleaned with rubbing alcohol. Even if you can temporarily relieve your discomfort, it is still a good idea to call our office to ensure your braces are working properly.
General Soreness
You may experience some generalized soreness after an adjustment appointment. This pressure type feeling is normal during orthodontic treatment and should go away within 24-48 hours. A warm saltwater rinse (one teaspoon of salt per eight ounces of warm water) will help make your mouth more comfortable. If you are experiencing sharp pain or severe discomfort call our office for an emergency visit.
