You can minimize the breakage of your orthodontic appliances by avoiding the following types of foods:
Candies such as caramels, taffy, and gum can get caught in your braces and are extremely hard to clean out of your braces.
Bagels, Pizza Crust, Nuts and Ice can break off a bracket which may result in longer treatment times! Also avoid foods you have to bite into like an apple, carrots, corn on the cob, ribs or chicken wings
Avoid foods that are high in sugar content. Cake, cookies, ice cream and sugary drinks like soda, sports drinks and sweet tea should be enjoyed only once per day.
During your orthodontic treatment, Dr. Metz may ask you to wear rubber bands or other types of appliances to help achieve the desired result. Your cooperation is the key to a successful result.
